Premier's Reading Challenge is now closed.
It's time to sign up for the Premier's Reading Challenge! The Challenge, now in its fourth year, is an initiative of the Queensland Government which helps improve children's literacy by boosting the number of books they read, and encouraging more challenging texts. Last year, more than 65,000 students read over one million books. This year the sky is the limit and we want students to read even more. The Premier is challenging every state and non-state school student from Prep to Year 7 to experience or read 20 books between 11 May and 21 August 2009. The Premier's Reading Challenge recognises the range of student abilities in Queensland classrooms. All students are encouraged to participate because the Challenge is not a competition, but a way to encourage greater involvement and develop a love of reading for life. Children who take up the challenge and read the required number of books will receive a signed certificate from the Premier. Schools with 100 per cent participation will go into the running for numerous lucky draw prizes. All schools that have been in the Challenge every year since its inception will also be in the running for various prizes. From 19 — 30 October, we are encouraging all schools who participate in the Challenge to celebrate their students' achievements during Celebration Week because every child who participates is a winner! WHAT DO I DO? Capricornia School of Distance Education is registered as a school for this event in 2009. Students need to read 20 books (minimum) and keep a record of this on the the Individual Reading Record. Complete the Individual Reading Record 2009 and send the completed form to your teacher by 21 August 2009. Your teacher will then pass the form on to Robyn Petersen (Rockhampton) and Kay Guascoine (Emerald) who will update the information online. |
